This is reserved for English Hancocks and is broken down into the County of Origin of our English ancestors. Although there are Hancocks from all over England, the main counties where Hancocks are found are:- Devon, Cornwall, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Somerset, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire Wiltshire and Worcestershire.

The earliest known record of the name is Thomas Hancoc who was living in Shropshire in 1274. Hanecok is recorded in Yorkshire two years later. In 1316 John Hanecokes was also in Yorkshire. By the early 1540's the Hancokes name was established in several counties.

By 1881, Hancock’s were found in some numbers from Cornwall right across England to the Wash and also South West Wales. At the time of the 1881 census, there were 13574 individuals with the surname Hancock. It was the 305th most popular surname in Britain.
