A person in a cotton mill who was involved in the process of winding cotton thread onto one or more bobbins, or onto reels or cotton tubes. There were machines to do the actual winding, so the job was about keeping an eye on the machine, changing bobbins as needed, &c. Winding was the first stage of cotton cloth production, before Warping and then Weaving.
