This category is being used to group profiles of people of English origin or ancestry who lived in English-speaking communities on Long Island, New York, in the years before 1776. The intent is to use the category in discussing a potential new project for the English settlers and settlements of Long Island in colonial times.
This collection is not intended to be comprehensive.
There is overlap with the projects for Puritan Great Migration (because some of these people arrived in New England during that migration, then removed to Long Island), New Netherland (because much of Long Island was claimed or controlled by New Netherland prior to the British takeover that was completed in 1674), Quakers (because many of the English communities on Long Island were established by and for Quakers), and New York and New Jersey.
