Frederiks Sogn was created about 1758 when King Frederik V recruited German settlers to cultivate a section of the moor owned by the King in central Denmark known as the Alhede. Among other things, the Germans were promised a church which was built in 1766 halfway between the settlements of Havredal and Grønhøj. The area around the church eventually became the village of Frederiks. It is currently part of the Viborg Østre Provsti (deanery or pastorate) in the Viborg Stift (diocese).
