The autonomous community of Galicia was split into seven Provinces by 1833. Before that, it was simply known as the "Reino de Galicia" (Kingdom of Galicia). The provinces were: Santiago, La Coruña, Betanzos, Lugo, Mondoñedo, Orense and Tuy. In 1833, the territorial division of Spain put an end to the Kingdom and unified Galicia with Spain. The four current provinces were formed: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and Pontevedra.
