- Title: George Harcourt 1820-1889 and His Descendants
- Author: James N. Perry
- Published: Nepean, Ontario: self-published c.1976
- Summary: George Harcourt, was the third son of James (2) of Birmingham Harcourts and Lucy Vernon, daughter of Joseph Vernon of Vernon Tailors, Smethwick. It is accepted that the Birmingham Harcourts came from Ellenhall in Staffordshire, a branch of Stanton Harcourt in Oxfordshire in 1679.
Most of the family history compiled by Jim was gathered through correspondence and conversations with family members. Unfortunately, none of the source details were recorded or preserved. A copy of the work was donated to the Public Archives of Canada in 1980 and was add to the Manuscript Group 25, Genealogy under the title Harcourt Family.
Jim compiled and distributed corrections and additional material in 1981 and 1983 and wanted desperately for someone to take over and continue his work. He asked Gary Bayes to take up this work, but being still in University it was not the right time for him. His mother N. May (Leech) Bayes as she retired from her career as a teacher and school librarian consented to take on the challenge. She continued to collect corrections and additional information from relatives from the mid-80s until the end of the century and distributed four updates in 1985/1986, 1989, 1993 and 1997. By this time she was no longer getting responses to her requests for information as the family that Jim had worked with initially had all dropped away.
So that the work done by these dedicated family historians is not lost Gary Bayes has taken on the task of using their work as a road map to load George Harcourt 1820-1889 and His Descendants with updates into WikiTree, adding additional biographical and source details to bring the work up to current day standards.
