Gist Guard Light Artillery was organized during the winter of 1862-1863. It served in the Department of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, and saw action in the Charleston area. In March, 1864, the company totalled 65 men, was involved in the defense of Savannah, returned to South Carolina, and surrendered in May, 1865. Its commander was Captain C.E. Chichester.
