Gillespie County is located in west central Texas. Formed in 1848 from Bexar and Travis Counties, the county is named for Robert Addison Gillespie, a soldier in the Mexican-American War. The county seat is Fredericksburg. Gillespie County comprises the Fredericksburg, Texas Micropolitan Statistical Area.
