Paul de Chomedey, sieur de Maisonneuve hired one hundred settlers for the Société Notre-Dame de Montréal to reinforce the outpost of Ville-Marie (Montréal) against the Iroquois. They depart from Saint-Nazaire, France, and arrive in 1653. Fourteen women, including Marguerite Bourgeois, are among those making the voyage.
