Charlemagne lines of Henry Ii

Henry

__________

  1. 1.0 1.1 Succeeded his father Pepin as King of the Franks jointly with his teenage brother Carloman (d 771). By 806 had divided his empire between his 3 eldest sons, but the first 2 predeceased him.
  2. 2.0 2.1 Baptized Pepin, but originally called Carloman, according to Settipani. 2nd son.
  3. 3.0 3.1 3rd but eldest surviving son. Twin with Lothar (4th son, d. inf.)
  4. 4.0 4.1 Also made himself King of Aquitaine, King of Lorraine, King of Italy at various times.
  5. 5.0 5.1 m1 (2/3w) sp Ethelwulf, m2 sp (her stepson) Ethelbald.
  6. 6.0 6.1 Succeeded by his 2 teenage sons by his 1st wife, jointly until they divided the kingdom. Louis III (eldest) dsp 882 and Carloman dsp 884, both still under age, leaving the 3rd (posthumous) son Charles, then about 5.
  7. 7.0 7.1 Usurped by Charles the Fat and Eudes Capet; succeeded in 898, having been crowned as anti-king earlier.
  8. 8.0 8.1 By 1st wife, father of 6 daughters including Gisela, wife of Rollo (sp)
  9. 9.0 9.1 Called Arnulf I in MedLands. Probably same as Ernicule, in which case his son Arnulf is Arnold III
  10. 10.0 10.1 WT makes Baldwin uncertain brother of Arnold III.
  11. WP says usurped by Arnold I until 964, d 972, succeeded by son Arnold III d 990, succeeded by Baldwin d 1027, succeeded by Eustace I 1042 huh? d 1049
  12. 12.0 12.1 or Elizabeth
  13. Called "Magnus", probably by mistake
  14. He married 3 children to 3 grandchildren of the Conqueror.
  15. 15.0 15.1 Adopted the name Maud on marriage, as did her husband's mother and sister. Called Isabel on WikiTree. MedLands gives this as a doubtful alternative.
  16. 16.0 16.1 His mother is commonly shown as Sprota, but this improbable name comes from only one late and unreliable source and is probably fictitious. See Henry Project.
