The family of von Schilling are attested in Kurland from the late sixteenth century. Subsequently Karl Gebhard von Schilling was matriculated into the estländischen Ritterschaft, 17.i.1768. His brother Gotthard Raphael von Schilling received Freiherrnstand, 18.ii.1772, and Grafenstand, 17.viii.1781, in the Imperial service.
