Category: Huguenot Protestant Ancestors
Categories: Huguenot Migration
This Category is to bring together WikiTree profiles of the Protestant Christian ancestors of a "Huguenot" or "French Huguenot" emigrant; it is reserved for those persons who did not leave their French-speaking homeland, France or a borderland like Wallonia, Languedoc, Provence, Alsace-Lorraine, Franche Comte, or the French-speaking Swiss Cantons, but whose children or grand-children emigrated abroad between 1540-1790, due to religious persecution. Most of the people whose profiles are in this Category were born between about 1500 and 1650. Most had died before 1685 when King Louis XIV revoked the "Edict of Nantes" that granted religious tolerance to Protestants.
Ancestors who died before 1517, when Martin Luther wrote the first Protestant manifesto, are excluded as they cannot be considered Protestants. Anyone born after 1790, when the French Revolution again proclaimed religious freedom in France, is also excluded because the Category "Huguenot Emigrants" ends with that political change.

This Category is associated with the {{Huguenot Protestant Ancestor}} Sticker. Adding that Sticker to a WikiTree profile automatically adds that profile to this Category.
This Sticker is still being designed. There will be 2 versions: #1 if you know the emigrant's destination or #2 if you do not know where the emigrant descendant went (or there were multiple destinations).
