John Sessions and Sarah Ransom are the progenitors of many of the Sessions families in the southern United States. It is believed they were both born in about 1711 in North Carolina. Their exact origins are unknown. DNA tests have linked multiple branches of this family. In addition, the Sessions Y-DNA project on ftDNA, has shown that the some of the Lewellens of Scott County, Tennessee are, in fact, descendents of John or his close male relatives.
