This is part of a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about the Kingman surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect. Please contact the project leader, add categories to your profiles, add your questions to the bulletin board, add details of your name research, etc.

John Kingman (Kyngeman) lived in South Newton, Wiltshire in the early 1500s. He was a fairly wealthy landowner, leaving significant monetary bequests in his will (dated 1522) to each of his nine children, notwithstanding any land that had already been assigned to them.

He has been linked to the family of Kinsman from Northamptonshire, but this has not yet been substantiated.

One branch of this tree with living descendants with the Kingman surname has been traced to Australia. These are the descendants of Albert Charles Kingman and Annie Harris. Albert was a seaman (Steward on the Lusitania) who settled in Austalia in the 1880s. No direct male line Kingman of this lineage has yet been located. If you are one, or know of one, please get in touch as we would really like your DNA pattern to help link these families together.

There is a y-DNA project dedicated to the Kingman surname, details of which can be found on the Kin(g)(s)man Family website
