This is part of a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about the Kingsman surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect. Please contact the project leader, add categories to your profiles, add your questions to the bulletin board, add details of your name research, etc.
The earliest Kingsmans of this line are Robert and his sister Catherine. They were born about 1530 and lived in the village of Overton, Wiltshire. They almost certainly did not come from there as there are no Kingsmans on the 1539 muster roll for North Wiltshire.
Robert was a fairly well off yeoman, he rented, but did not own, the manor house in West Overton, whereas his son's father-in-law, Richard Franklin, owned the manor of neighbouring East Kennett.
There have been emigrations around the world, but the name remains fairly rare.
There is a y-DNA project dedicated to the Kinsman surname, details of which can be found on the Kin(g)(s)man Family website
