Knights bachelor

The rank of Knight Bachelor is a part of the British honours system, being the lowest grade of knighthood. The knighthood does not have a post-nominal and is not an Order of Chivalry (see Category: British Orders of Chivalry).

Note: Use of "Knight" as a title is discussed in this G2G post.

The rank of Knight Bachelor is awarded only to men; there is no direct equivalent for women. And as with all knighthoods, the rank is always personal, not hereditary, and not bestowed on children.

In some instances, "Kt" is used for Knights Bachelor, but neither Kt nor Knt. should be included in the prefix or suffix field of WikiTree profiles. Knights Bachelor should have Sir in the prefix field and [[Category: Knights Bachelor]] included in the text of their profile.
