Laird of Sleat (MacDonald of Sleat) (Clann Ùisdein)

The chief's Gaelic designation is Mac Ùisdein ("son of Ùisdean"), in reference to the clan's founder. Since the extinction of the direct line of the family of the Isles, in the middle of the sixteenth century, MacDonald of Sleat has always been styled in Gaelic, Mac Dhonuill nan Eilean, or MacDonald of the Isles. The seat of the Chief of the Clan MacDonald of Sleat was at Dunscaith Castle which is now a ruin. The current chief of the Clan MacDonald of Sleat is Sir Ian Bosville Macdonald, 17th Baronet of Sleat.
