Category: Media Research Bureau, Washington, DC, Fraud
Categories: Frauds and Fabrications
Media Research Bureau, Washington, D.C., was a company which sold many fabricated "family name" and "coat of arms" reports. Due to fraudulent activities the company was forced out of business by the United States Postal Service with the assistance of American Society of Genealogists (ASG). See the ASG website for more information.
World Cat lists about 200 "books" with this organization as an author: http://www.worldcat.org/search?qau%3AMedia+Research+Bureau, but many of the materials cited in family histories with attribution to Media Research Bureau are not found on this list.
This category is a location to identify the profiles of people whose biographies and family histories (on WikiTree or elsewhere) have been affected (or in some cases may have been affected) by Media Research Bureau fabrications. "Affected" is the operative word -- listing in this category does NOT mean that the profile itself is fraudulent; hopefully it is listed because the fabrication has been identified and corrected.
