The National Police Service Medal is awarded by the Governor-General of Australia on the recommendation of the Commissioner of the Police Force of which the person is, or was last, a member. A minimum of 15 years service is required to be eligible for the medal, although this does not represent a distinct period of service. A member must also have been serving on or after 14 February 1975 to qualify for the National Police Service Medal.
