New Jersey was admitted to the union on December 18, 1787 as the 3rd state to ratify the Constitution. It is the fourth-smallest state, but the 11th-most populous and the most densely populated of the 50 United States. New Jersey lies entirely within the combined statistical areas of New York City and Philadelphia. It is also the second-wealthiest U.S. state by median household income.

A Note About Naming Townships in New Jersey: In New Jersey, townships are municipalities and should be named Township, New Jersey, without the county, unless there are two townships with the same name. There are five Washington Townships, three Franklin Townships, etc. Please consult references before naming with a county name.
