The No. 2 Construction Battalion was the first and only Canadian Black battalion, formed in World War I in Pictou, Nova Scotia.

For further reading, Calvin Ruck, a member of the battalion, published The Black Battalion (1916-1920): Canada's Best-Kept Military Secret in 1986. The book was updated with a new forward by his grand daughter Lindsay Ruck in 2016.
