In 1947 the city of Gorica (German: Görz, Italian: Gorizia, Slovenian: Gorica) was split in two parts: the western part including the city center stayed Italian and the eastern part became Yugoslavian. Since then the eastern part, currently located in Slovenia, has been called Nova Gorica (New Gorica).
