The Ohio State University, Main Campus, Columbus, Ohio

Ohio State University's (OSU’s) 1,777-acre main campus is located approximately 2.5 miles north of downtown Columbus, Ohio. Traveling north from downtown, the OSU campus occupies all of the west side of High Street (State Route 23) from West 11th Avenue up to West Lane Avenue, a distance of approximately three-quarters of a mile. Four buildings on campus are currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places: Hale Hall (formerly the Ohio Union), Hayes Hall, Orton Hall and Ohio Stadium. The Hale, Hayes and Orton buildings, along with University Hall and the William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library, surround Mirror Lake and a complex of two park-like green spaces known as “The Oval” and “The South Oval”. The traditional gateway to the university, at the intersection of East 15th Avenue and High Street, is anchored by Sullivant Hall and the Wexner Center for the Arts. The campus is bisected by the Olentangy River, which flows southward before merging with the Scioto River near downtown Columbus. The river is flanked by Ohio Stadium and the Schottenstein Center, the respective homes of the Buckeyes’ top-ranked NCAA Division I football and basketball teams. Morrill Tower and Lincoln Tower (known as "The Towers”), two large undergraduate dormitories, overlook Ohio Stadium from the south. At their peak occupancy in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the two dormitories combined to house over 3,800 students. In September 2013, enrollment at the main campus in Columbus totaled 57,466 students, making it the 4th largest campus in the country (by enrollment). OSU’s colleges of agriculture and environmental science, business, education, engineering, medicine and law are consistently recognized among the top centers of learning in their respective fields. U.S. News & World Report’s 2013 edition of “America’s Best Colleges” ranked OSU as the 16th best public university in the nation, and awarded “Top 10” ratings to ten of the university’s graduate degree programs.
