Order of the Bath

The Most Honourable Order of the Bath (formerly the Most Honourable Military Order of the Bath) is a British order of chivalry founded by George I on 18 May 1725. The Order consists of the Sovereign, the Great Master, and three Classes of members:

  1. Knight Grand Cross (GCB) or Dame Grand Cross (GCB)
  2. Knight Commander (KCB) or Dame Commander (DCB)
  3. Companion (CB)

Prior to 1815, the order consisted of a single class, Knight Companion (KB), which no longer exists. Recipients living in 1815 were reclassified as Knights Grand Cross.
