The National Pantheon (Panteão Nacional) contains the tombs of some of the most distinguished Portuguese. The purpose of the Pantheon is to honour and perpetuated the memory of those notables. It was established in 1836, and since first December 1966 is located in the church of Santa Engrácia in Lisbon. The Portuguese parliament decides to whom the Patheon honors are given they consist in the entombment of the person or with a memorial plaque in the Pantheon.
