Port-Royal, Acadie was established by French settlers in 1605. It was the capital of Acadia until its destruction by the British in 1613. The settlement was relocated 8km away. The relocated settlement kept the name Port-Royal and served as the Acadian capital until the British conquest of the colony in 1710, at which time the settlement was renamed to Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia Colony
