Sept. 14th Recovery Efforts
Firefighters from the New York City Fire Department rushed to the World Trade Center minutes after the first plane struck the north tower. Numerous staging areas were set up near the World Trade Center, where responding fire units could report and get deployment instructions. The FDNY deployed 200 units (half of all units) to the site, with more than 400 firefighters on the scene when the buildings collapsed.

In addition to the local Police, Doctors, EMS, and Nurses, recovery efforts included personnel from the CIvil Air patrol, National Guard, US Marine Corps, US Navy as well as hundreds of volunteer ironworkers, structural engineers, heavy machinery operators, asbestos workers, boilermakers, carpenters, cement masons, construction managers, electricians, insulation workers, machinists, plumbers and pipefitters, riggers, sheet metal workers, steelworkers, truckers and teamsters, and American Red Cross volunteers.
