The following is a list of earliest paternal Shelton/Chelton/Chilton ancestors for participants in the Shelton YDNA project. Shelton Group 1 is known in the project as the "Middlesex Co., VA" group. Many of the participants in this group can trace their ancestry to Ralph Shelton Sr., b. 1684. The males listed below with the same (or similar) surname belong to the same direct paternal line (as confirmed by Y-DNA matching) but their earlier direct paternal line ancestry is incomplete.
