The following is a list of earliest paternal Shelton/Chelton/Chilton ancestors for participants in the Shelton YDNA project.

Shelton Group 4 is known in the project as the "Rural Plains/Hanover" group. Some of its descendants lived on the Rural Plains plantation in Virginia. The males listed below with the same (or similar) surname belong to the same direct paternal line (as confirmed by Y-DNA matching) but their earlier direct paternal line ancestry is incomplete.

The Haplogroup for this Group is R1B1
