A more colloquial (and derisive) synonym for "social prophet" is "muckraker". A muckraker digs in the muck of society to unearth the things that makes society embarassed. A social prophet sees the oppressive conditions of the poor and vulnerable and writes about them to make the broader society aware of conditions which must be corrected.
