Southern Rhodesia Military History Southern Rhodesia was a self governing British colony that made a very significant contribution to the British Empire war effort. During the latter part of the 1800s, occupation forces fought against indigenous resistance in what became known as the Chimurenga. Men from Southern Rhodesia fought in the Second Boer War, participated alongside British forces in the Malayan Emergency and fought in the two World Wars.
