Spanish Texas was the territory that included parts of present-day Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Wyoming. Spanish Texas was part of the Kingdom of Spain. It was known as the Province of Texas (Provincia de Tejas). Because of its distance from the Iberian Peninsula, the Kingdom of Spain governed via viceroyalty. Ministers (Viceroys) were hand-selected by the Spain, Monarchs. Texas was sub-governed by the Viceroyalty of New Spain (Mexico). It was treated as a "borderland" to deter invasion(s) from other countries.
