Categories: British Army

The Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment was an infantry regiment of the British Army from 1881 to 1961. Its Garrison/HQ was in Maidstone, Kent. The 1881 Army reforms gave Kent two county regiments, one of which was the Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). It was formed by merging the 50th (The Queen's Own) Regiment of Foot and the 97th (The Earl of Ulster's) Regiment of Foot, which became the new unit's 1st and 2nd regular battalions. In January 1921, the regiment was renamed the Royal West Kent Regiment (Queen's Own) and, in April of the same year, was again renamed, this time as the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment.
