  • 1898 - U.S. forces invade Puerto Rico marking the start of the Spanish-American War.
  • 1909 - Louis Blériot, first to cross the English Channel in an airplane.
  • 1915 - RFC Captain Lanoe Hawker becomes the first British aviator to earn the Victoria Cross.
  • 1943 - Benito Mussolini falls from power during WWII.
  • 1965 - Bob Dylan uses electric guitars at the Newport Folk Festival.
  • 1978 - Louise Joy Brown, the world's first test tube baby, was born.
  • 2024 - "Deadpool and Wolverine" is screened at San Diego ComicCon, the only Disney-backed Marvel film to date. Marvel President Kevin Feige received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
