The USS Claude V. Ricketts was originally commissioned as USS Biddle on 5 May 1962. On 28 Jul 1964, the ship was renamed in honor of Admiral Claude Vernon Ricketts, former Vice Chief of Naval Operations, who died on 6 Jul 1964.
