This is a top-level category for sub-categories relating to the whole of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, which was formed on 1 January 1801 from the Kingdom of Great Britain (comprising the nations of England, Scotland and Wales) and the Kingdom of Ireland. Most of Ireland left the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland on 6 December 1922; on 12 April 1927, the remainder officially changed its name to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Three jurisdictions hold the status of British Crown Dependency. These are the Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey, collectively known as the Channel Islands, in the English Channel, and the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea.
Wherever possible sub-categories should be nested under the appropriate nation or jurisdiction.
