- This category groups the state ghost town categories.
The definition of "Ghost Town" in the United States of America is broad. For many people, a ghost town is simply an abandoned city with a few ruins left to see. But, for more populated states, a ghost town can be a former town completely absorbed by its neighboring town. There are also underwater ghost towns that have been flooded in order to construct lakes, dams, etc. Some former towns have become historic towns open to tourism.
