Wayne County was formed on April 11, 1823 by combining portions of Seneca and Ontario counties. The name honors General Anthony Wayne, an American Revolutionary War hero and American statesman. The county seat is Lyons. Wayne County is part of the Rochester, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area.
