Biography

Charles Edgar Cates Jr. was born Dec. 30, 1924 in Angelina Co., Texas[1] to Charles Edgar Cates Sr. and Lottye (Alexander) Cates.

Charles passed away Dec. 15, 1978 in Austin, Texas[2] and was buried at Forest Park Cemetery in Houston, Texas.

Dr. abbreviated my dad's first name on his birth certificate. Dad went by Charles his entire life, but had to submit a letter to the Commandant, US Merchant Marine Academy stating this fact and that he went by Charles in order to receive his diploma when he graduated.
