Abraham Catlin, Sr. was born August 13, 1720, in Hartford, Connecticut and was residing in Harwinton, Litchfield County, Connecticut, at the time of the American Revolutionary War. Abraham enlisted as a Private in Captain David Welch's Company, under the command of Colonel David Wooster, of the 1st Connecticut Regiment, raised on 27 April 1775 at Norwich, Connecticut in the Connecticut State Troops. The regiment consisted of ten companies of volunteers from New Haven and Litchfield counties of the state of Connecticut. Siege of Boston, Invasion of Canada and the Battle of Trois-Rivières. [1]
Abraham Catlin is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A022790. DAR records indicate that Abraham died in December, 1802, in Harwinton, Litchfield, Connecticut, and that his wife's name was Mindwell Griswold. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their sons, Jacob Catlin, who married Dorothy Griswold; Jesse Catlin, who married Kesiah Dewey; and Simeon Catlin, who married Anna Thornton. Abraham was the son of Benjamin Catlin and Margaret [Kellogg] Catlin. [3] On September 15, 1742, Abraham married Mindwell Griswold. [4] Children of Abraham are Mindwell were born in Harwinton, Litchfield County, Connecticut. Note: Some of the records are found under the surname "Catling:"
Abraham Catlin is found on the First Census of the newly formed United States, published in 1790 from 1781 tax records. He is residing in Litchfield County, Connecticut. [16] In 1800, Abraham is still residing in Litchfield County, two years prior to his death. [17]
