BIOGRAPHY

Next to Last Battle of the War of 1812 - The Battle of Ice Mound: Sgt Joseph Cator Sergeant, 48th Regiment, 12th Brigade Battle of Ice Mound.

[1] Following the end of the War of 1812, some battles lingered on due to the profound lack of communicating to troops that the battle was over Christmas Eve of 1814. Sgt. Joseph Cator was one of Taylors Island's men who got caught in this situation. There was a battle at New Orleans and the one at Ice Mound that were still fought. Picture it this way...land, ice, British ship (the Dauntless) stuck in the ice. The Maryland Militia used a mound of ice to fire muskets from, resulting in the surrender of the crew who were caught below deck without adequate weaponry. Wonder if the Brits did not knew the war was over too.

When Joseph (Sgt.) Cator was born on April 22, 1778, in Dorchester County, Maryland, his father, Levin Cator, was 33 and his mother, Aney Robson Cator, was 33. Aney lived from 1745 to 1800; she was 55. His father Levin surrender. I wonder if the ship was also unaware of the end of the War of 1812 previously? Cator passed away on October 1, 1826, at the age of 81 (1744–1826)
