A list of licensed gamekeepers published in 1804 shows a "Thomas Catt", employed by Richard Curteis, esq. This is most likely a mistake or misprint for "Joseph Catt", since no other record of such a Thomas Catt has been found, and Joseph was noted as a servant and beneficiary in Mr Curteis's will.
Joseph and wife Frances appear as beneficiaries in the will of their employer Richard Curteis, owner of the Morghew estate in Tenterden:
I give & bequeath unto the several persons hereafter named,if they shall severally be my tenants at the time of my decease, but not otherwise, the sum of five pounds sterling each, that is to say ... Sharp the widow of my late servant John Sharp, John Bourner, James Brissenden, Joseph Catt, Frances the wife of the said Joseph Catt ....
