George is related to the Neir family of Woodhaven, Queens, NYC.[3] He is the great grandnephew of Louis Neir, former owner and namesake of the famous 190 yo bar in Woodhaven, Queens, NYC called Neir's Tavern. Located near the Brooklyn border, it's one of the few old drinking establishments that has been in continuous operation (except during the Prohibition) in the same location. A young Mae West used to dance there and likely first performed in its ballroom. In 1990, Neir's was the setting for the film Goodfellas starring Bobby DeNiro, Joe Peschi, Ray Liotta and Lorraine Bracco. In 2013, Tower Heist with Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Tea Leoni and Alan Alda was filmed there. In 1898, Louis Neir bought the The Old Abbey and added a ballroom, the first bowling alley in Queens county and upstairs rooms calling it "Neir's Social Hall." The Neir family ran the tavern until 1980 and although the bar was renamed at the name, the current owners reverted the name back to Neir's Tavern.[4] A great video on this historic tavern can be found on YouTube at [6].
In 1940 at 134-27 Malcolm Av, A.D. 5, Queens Co, NYC NY the Caulfield household consisted of Joseph, Caroline and their son George. Joseph and Caroline claimed to have lived in the same house in 1935 but they weren't married at the time. The residence was rented for $12/mo. Joseph was a mechanic in a factory who worked 40 weeks prior to the census and worked 52 weeks in 1939 for $1,200 with no income from other sources.[5]
George was drafted 1963 US Army; 1964-5 served as an MP in Kornwestheim, Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany; discharged 1965 and achieved the rank of SP4.[6]
Upon George's return to the US mid-1965, he and Judy rented an apartment in Ozone Park, Queens, NY. In late 1967, they bought a house in South Ozone Park, Queens and George worked for the NYC Transit Authority and later transferred to the NYC Sanitation Department (DSNY). In 1970, they sold the Queens home and bought a home at 136 Stonecutter Rd, Levittown, Hempstead, Nassau Co, NY and George became a DSNY foreman. By Jan 1981, George was a DSNY Supervisor for local District 18 (Brooklyn) and was presented that month with a plaque in recognition of his outstanding assistance in helping the Clean-up Coalition in its campaign to keep the Brooklyn Canarsie streets clear of litter.[9] Abt. 1983, George transferred to another local district but returned in 1985 to Brooklyn as Boro Supt., Brooklyn East.[10] Abt. 1987, George moved to 85-10 151 Avenue, 4 L, Howard Beach, Queens Co, NYC, NY.[11] On 09 Oct 2012, George and Liz bought a home 415 Royal Palm Way, Spring Hill, Hernando Co, FL where he resided at the time of death.
