Biography

Thomas Cauthen, Jr., son of Thomas Cauthen, Sr., first of that name in Lancaster County, South Carolina, was born March 7, 1780. He died May 17, 1872 in Lancaster County, South Carolina and is buried in Hanging Rock Methodist Church Cemetery. He Married Nancy Stevens and she is buried there beside him:

"In/memory/of/Thomas Cauthen, Sr./Died May 17 1872/age 92 years ; Thomas Cauthen Jr. had a son Thomas living when the elder Thomas died: hence his being call 'Senior" on the tombstone.

He married second, after Nancy"s death, her sister, Mrs Rebecca Stevens Fleming. Thomas and Rebecca did not have any children but she had one son by her first marriage, John Fleming.
