Biography

James was born in 1899 and is from the state of Connecticut. He is the son of James Cavanaugh and Margaret (Reilley) Cavanaugh. James was a cousin to my father Francis Edward Barry Sr. who, with his mother Mary (Cavanaugh) Barry, stayed with James' family as documented by the 1910 US Federal Census. The family lived in Norwalk, Fairfield, Connecticut in the early 1900's.

About 1920 James met and married Anna F (Lang) Cavanaugh. The couple had three children, James G., Michael J., and Joseph. About 1940 James moved to Newton, Fairfield County Connecticut, and then to Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut where he applied for and became a Police Officer.

Tragically Officer James Cavanaugh was struck and killed by a vehicle while on duty. End of Watch: Monday, April 11, 1966.
