Biography

Anne Josephine Cavanaugh was born about 1834 in Dublin, Ireland. She was the daughter of Andrew Cavanagh and Elizabeth (Penrose?), Andrew was a farmer in Dublin.

She married Lawrence Byrne at St Andrews in Dublin. According to the marriage certificate - she was widowed in 1855 (the same year she married Henry).

Research Notes

Marriage certificate states that Anne was a widow and her husband died in 1855. Passenger manifest states that she travelled to Australia with Lawrence Byrn (born in Down, Ireland). No deaths recorded for Lawrence Byrne until 1860. it is possible (and needs to be further researched), that Lawrence was not deceased before she married Henry. Australia passed legislation, that marriages that had been celebrated outside the Church of England were not legitimate marriages, and her marriage to Henry was in the Church of England.

There are either 2 Henry and Annie Ward living at Eddington or more likely it was Annie’s second marriage. (Eddington is a very small town) First marriage was to Unknown BYRNS. A few of the children’s birth records have not been found but there are records with mothers former name as BYRNS. (Delete notes if incorrect)
