Ashford - James Caverly of Ashford, passed away on Dec. 19, 2016, at Hartford Hospital.
He was born in Suffern, N.Y., on July 14, 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-61 and was released with an honorable discharge. He earned his GED while in the Navy.
His wife, Barbara, passed away in 2012 after 48 years of marriage.
James worked for Benny's Home and Auto as a manager, American Standard, Traveler's Insurance and IBM. Upon his retirement, he worked for several years at Mohegan Sun in the bus department. He was an avid fisherman.
He leaves two sons, James G. Caverly of Fort Myers, Fla., and Ronald G. Caverly of Fresno, Calif. He also leaves six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
His daughter, Jeannie M. Marquis, preceded him in death earlier this year. He was also predeceased by his wife, Barbara; his parents, Gerald and Mildred Belanger; two brothers, Eugene (Whitey) and John (Duke) Vandermark; and two grandchildren, Matthew Caverly and Cassandra Murphy.
In honoring James' wishes, private services will be held at the convenience of his family.
