Charles Goodenough Taplin Cawte was born on 24 February 1892 at Newtown, New South Wales, Australia [1], the son of James Cawte and Adelaide Harradine and the brother of Ellen Frederica (Cawte) Winning, James Frederick Cawte, Maria Ann (Cawte) Nelson, Emma Eatte Cawte, Lillian M Cawte, William Cawte, Elizabeth Florence May (Cawte) Jenetzky and Alfred B Cawte.

He married Ivy Evelyn Greaves on 7 March 1912 at Port Pirie, South Australia, Australia [2] and their children were Audrey Isobel Cawte, Ivy Dulcie May Cawte, Violet Kathleen Cawte, Charles Edmund James Cawte, Elizabeth Dawn Cawte and Gordon Cawte.
