Claude d'Arcy Cayley was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada according the 1911 UK census, though Burke's Peerage states that he was born in Croydon, Surrey, England. He came to England as a young child. He served as a lieutenant in the Middlesex Regiment, being posted to the Punjab, where he was, for at least a time, based in Rawalpindi. In 1917 he married Lillian Gertrude Hall in Kensington, London. In 1935 he was living in Norwood, Surrey, England.[1] He died in Hampstead, Middlesex on 30 November 1948.
