Edward Stillingfleet Cayley was born in 1824. He was the son of Edward Cayley and Emma Cayley. He was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge, was admitted to Inner Temple in 1848 and was called to the Bar in 1851. He practised on the Northern circuit. He lived at Wydale, Yorkshire, England and at the Low Hall, Brompton by Sawdon, Yorkshire, England. In 1873 he owned 1866 acres in the North Riding of Yorkshire.[1] He passed away in 1884. His wife paid for a window in his memory in All Saints Church, Brompton by Sawdon.

He was the author of two books:

  • European Revolutions of 1848, 2 vols, 1856
  • The War of 1870 and the Peace of 1871, 1871
